DescriptionAnti-WD repeat-containing protein 5 Antibody
Alternate Names
  • WD repeat-containing protein 5
  • BMP2-induced 3-kb gene protein
Background InformationWD repeat-containing protein 5 (WDR5) or alternatively BMP2-induced 3kb gene protein, is encoded by the human gene named WDR5/BIG3 and is part of a family of WD-40 repeat proteins that appear to facilitate the formation of multi-protein complexes much like a sticky tape will bind a variety of components together. The WD repeat proteins are involved in a wide array of cellular functions and processes including cell cycle progression, homeobox gene activation, apoptosis, gene regulation and histone methylation. One of WDR5 best studied activities is as part of a multi-protein complex that facilitates the methylation of histones, particularly histone H3, through its interaction with MLL a histone methyltransferase. WDR5 is also expressed in developing bone cells including osteoblasts, chondrocytes, and marrow stromal cells and works to accelerate osteoblast differentiation and positively promotes Wnt signaling in developing bone tissues.
