DescriptionAnti-G Protein Giα 1/2 Antibody
Background InformationGTP-binding proteins (G-proteins) play a critical role in signal transduction by coupling receptors to effectors. The intracellular consequences of G-protein activation include second messenger generation, protein phosphorylation, ion channel activation, gene induction, cell growth, and differentiation. Gi belongs to the pertussis toxin sensitive G-proteins. Gi consists of three different subtypes of alpha-subunits (alphai1, alphai2 and alphai3).

Applications
ApplicationAnti-G Protein Giα 1/2 Antibody is an antibody against G Protein Giα 1/2 for use in WB, IH(P).
Key Applications
  • Western Blotting
  • Immunohistochemistry (Paraffin)
Application NotesImmunohistochemistry(paraffin):
Representative testing from a previous lot.
Optimal Staining of GI ALPHA 1/2 With Citrate pH 6.0 Epitope Retrieval: Rat Cerebellum GI ALPHA 1/2 representative staining pattern/morphology in rat cerebellum. Tissue was pretreated with citrate pH 6, antigen retrieval. A previous lot of this antibody was diluted to 1:100, using IHC-Select® Detection with HRP-DAB.

Optimal working dilutions must be determined by end user.

Entrez Gene Number
Entrez Gene SummaryGuanine nucleotide-binding proteins (G proteins) form a large family of signal-transducing molecules. They are found as heterotrimers made up of alpha, beta, and gamma subunits. Members of the G protein family have been characterized most extensively on the basis of the alpha subunit, which binds guanine nucleotide, is capable of hydrolyzing GTP, and interacts with specific receptor and effector molecules. The G protein family includes Gs (MIM 139320) and Gi, the stimulatory and inhibitory GTP-binding regulators of adenylate cyclase; Go, a protein abundant in brain (GNAO1; MIM 139311); and transducin-1 (GNAT1; MIM 139330) and transducin-2 (GNAT2; MIM 139340), proteins involved in phototransduction in retinal rods and cones, respectively (Sullivan et al., 1986 [PubMed 3092218]; Bray et al., 1987 [PubMed 3110783]). Suki et al. (1987) [PubMed 2440724] concluded that the human genome contains at least 3 nonallelic genes for alpha-i-type subunits of G protein; see, e.g, GNAI2 (MIM 139360), GNAI3 (MIM 139370), and GNAIH (MIM 139180).[supplied by OMIM] ...

UniProt Number
UniProt SummaryFUNCTION: SwissProt: P63096 # Guanine nucleotide-binding proteins (G proteins) are involved as modulators or transducers in various transmembrane signaling systems. The G(i) proteins are involved in hormonal regulation of adenylate cyclase: they inhibit the cyclase in response to beta-adrenergic stimuli.
SIZE: 354 amino acids; 40361 Da
SUBUNIT: G proteins are composed of 3 units; alpha, beta and gamma. The alpha chain contains the guanine nucleotide binding site. Interacts with GPSM1 (By similarity).
SIMILARITY: SwissProt: P63096 ## Belongs to the G-alpha family. G(i/o/t/z) subfamily.

Usage Statement
  • Unless otherwise stated in our catalog or other company documentation accompanying the product(s), our products are intended for research use only and are not to be used for any other purpose, which includes but is not limited to, unauthorized commercial uses, in vitro diagnostic uses, ex vivo or in vivo therapeutic uses or any type of consumption or application to humans or animals.
Storage and Shipping Information
Storage ConditionsStable at -20°C in undiluted aliquots for up to 12 months from date of receipt.
Handling Recommendations: Upon first thaw, and prior to removing the cap, centrifuge the vial and gently mix the solution. Aliquot into microcentrifuge tubes and store at -20°C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles, which may damage IgG and affect product performance.
