      Background InformationStabilin-2 (UniProt: Q8R4U0; also known as Fasciclin, EGF-like, laminin-type EGF-like and link domain-containing scavenger receptor 2, FEEL-2) is encoded by the Stab2 (also known as Feel2, Hare) gene (Gene ID: 192188) in murine species. Stabilin-2 is a single-pass type I membrane glycoprotein that is synthesized with a signal peptide (aa 1-28), which is subsequently cleaved off to generate the mature form that contains a long extracellular domain (aa 29-2464), a transmembrane domain (aa 2465-2485), and a cytoplasmic tail (aa 2486-2485). It contains seventeen EGF-like repeats, seven fascilin-1 domains and an X-linked domain. Stabilin-2 is expressed in endothelial sinuses of liver, lymph nodes, bone marrow, spleen, and in also considered as a marker for embryonic stem cells. Stabilin-2 serves as a phosphatidylserine receptor that enhances the engulfment of apoptotic cells. It also acts as a hyaluronan receptor that binds to and mediates endocytosis of hyaluronic acid (HA). It also participates in maintaining tissue integrity by supporting extracellular matrix turnover and maintaining fluidity of bodily liquids by resorption of hyaluronan. A proteolytically processed short form of Stabilin-2 (aa 1136-2511) has also been described that functions as an endocytosis receptor for internalization of heparin and hyaluronic acid (HA). Inhibition of Stabilin-2 is reported to elevate circulating levels of HA that prevents tumor metastasis of B16F10 melanoma cells to the lungs. Clone 34-2 is shown to inhibit binding of HA to Stabilin-2 and prevent metastasis of melanoma to lungs in murine models. (Ref.: Hirose, Y., et al. (2012). Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci.
