Background InformationHuR (Hu-antigen R, ELAV-like protein 1, ELAV1) is an RNA binding protein that contains 3 RNA-binding domains. It is known to binds AU-rich elements if mRNA. It regulates gene expression by destabilizing their mRNA. It is known to be upregulated in certain cancers such as breast and gastric cancers. Some of its targets include cFos, IL-3, and BRCA1 mRNAs. HuR has also been shown to be involved in the regulation of VEFG-A and NFkB expression in certain cell types. It activation and accumulation are also linked to many energy signaling molcules such as that of the PI3K/Akt pathway and AMPK..
