      ImmunogenA 20 amino acid peptide sequence near the extracellular N-terminus of rat ASIC1 (Chen et al. 1998; Waldmann et al. 1997; Garcia-Anoveros et al. 1997; Waldmann et al. 1996).

      The immunogen sequence has 100% homology with human sodium channel 2 or BNaC2.

The member encoded by this gene is expressed in most if not all brain neurons, and it may be an ion channel subunit; however, its function as an ion channel remains unknown. Alternative splicing of this gene generates 2 transcript products.
