      DescriptionAnti-MTHFR Antibody
      Alternate Names
      • Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase
      • MTHFR
Background InformationMethylenetetrahydrofolate reductase or 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (EC 1.5.1.20; UniProt P42898) is encoded by the MTHFR gene (Gene ID 4524) in human. MTHFR catalyzes the reduction of 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate to 5-methyltetrahydrofolate, the predominant circulatory form of folate and carbon donor for the re-methylation of homocysteine to methionine. Defects in MTHFR cause plasma homocysteine elevation or hperhomocysteinaemia, a risk factor for cerebrovascular, peripheral vascular, and coronary heart disease. Multiple transcription start sites and alternative splicing in the MTHFR gene result in two enzyme isoforms.

      Key Applications
      • Western Blotting
Application NotesWestern Blotting Analysis: A representative lot detected MTHFR in mice plasma, kidney and brain (Chew, T.W., et al. (2011). J. Nutr. 141(8):1475-1481.).
Western Blotting Analysis: A representative lot detected MTHFR in porcine liver, human lymphocytes, human fetal kidney, human adult kidney, cells transfected with MTHFR (Rozen, R. U.S. Patent 6,833,243 B2, December 21, 2004).
Western Blotting Analysis: A representative lot detected MTHFR in HepG2, mouse liver, and RAW264.7 (Mikael, L.G., and Rozen, R. (2008). Cardiovasc. Res. 80(1):151-158).
Western Blotting Analysis: A representative lot detected recombinant MTHFR protein, as well as endogenous MTHFR in human kidney (both fetal & adult), fetal human lung, and adult human aorta (Tran, P., et al. (2002). Mamm. Genome. 13(9):483-492).
