      DescriptionAnti-FXR1 Antibody, clone 6BG10
      Alternate Names
      • fragile X mental retardation, autosomal homolog 1
      • fragile X mental retardation-related protein 1
Background InformationFragile X mental retardation-related protein 1 (FXR1) and FXR2 are members of the FMR1 family sharing a very high degree of protein similarity among them. They interact with each other and also with FMR1, moving between the cytoplasm and the nucleus. FXR1 is an RNA binding protein and is expressed in the heart, kidney, brain, and testis. Mutations in FMR1 result in the most common form of mental retardation.

      Entrez Gene Number
Entrez Gene SummaryThe protein encoded by this gene is an RNA binding protein that interacts with the functionally-similar proteins FMR1 and FXR2. These proteins shuttle between the nucleus and cytoplasm and associate with polyribosomes, predominantly with the 60S ribosomal subunit. Three transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq]

      UniProt Number
UniProt SummaryFUNCTION: RNA-binding protein required for embryonic and postnatal development of muscle tissue. May regulate intracellular transport and local translation of certain mRNAs By similarity.

SUBUNIT STRUCTURE: Interacts with FMR1 and FXR2. Interacts with TDRD3, and with CYFIP2 but not with CYFIP1.

      SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cytoplasm.

TISSUE SPECIFICTY: Expressed in all tissues examined including heart, brain, kidney and testis.

PTM: Arg-445 is dimethylated, probably to asymmetric dimethylarginine.

SEQUENCE SIMILARITIES: Belongs to the FMR1 family.

      Contains 2 KH domains.
